Tack that fits your model properly and may be the single most important part of performance showing. A saddle with amazing detail and excellent quality will lose if it is out of proportion to the horse or hasn't been adjusted properly.
To eliminate this problem, Lane Saddlery offers saddles in four different sizes to fit models of every shape and size:
Small -- fits ponies such as CWP and Newsworthy
Medium -- fits most average models such as Gem Twist, Lady Phase, and Giselle
Large -- fits large Traditional models such as Breyer's Cleveland Bay
Extra Large -- fits some of the larger resin models
If you are not sure which of these sizes will fit your horse best, contact me so we can discuss the options.
Dolls and Stirrups
If you plan on using a doll, I recommend ordering larger stirrups. I can also leave the stirrup leathers long, which you can trim to fit.
The stirrup on the far right is standard for small and medium saddles, and the center one is standard for large saddles. Measure the foot of your doll to see which stirrup will work for you.
Inner measurement from left to right: 9/16", 1/2", 7/16"
Measurements
Bridles and girths are made to measure. Ideally I will have the same horse you do (see below for a list). If not, I will ask you to measure your model.
Barrel -- using a cloth measuring tape or a piece of non-stretchable string, measure all the way around the horse's barrel, as close behind his front legs as possible.
Headstall -- measure from the corner of the horse's mouth, over his head, behind his ears, down to the opposite mouth corner
Browband -- starting on the side of the horse's head, just behind the ear, measure across his forehead to just behind the ear on the other side. If your horse has a forelock, please mention it so I can make a split browband.
Noseband -- measure around his nose, just below his cheekbones

Food for thought...
When you order, consider carefully what model or models you want to use. Think about both the size of the model itself and the kind of horse he is. In real life, most people fit the saddle to the rider, then the horse. For instance, a draft horse such as Wixom could be used as an English riding animal, and the saddle would look relatively small (I used to ride Percherons who needed a 52" girth on a dressage saddle!). Saddles often look a little large on ponies, especially since most kids ride in a saddle with a little growing room.
